Teams set for epic battle in University of Ghana Corporate Football League

The stage is set for an exciting showdown as 16 corporate institutions prepare to compete in the highly anticipated University of Ghana Corporate Football League.

This transformative competition, organised by the University of Ghana Sports and Wellness Directorate, is a sequel to last year’s UG Corporate Football Gala, which was won by Union Ghana.

Building on the success of the inaugural gala, the league promises 20 weeks of thrilling football action, kicking off in February 2025 and culminating in July. Matches will be held at the University of Ghana Stadium, and the event aims to strengthen bonds between corporate entities and the university community while promoting wellness, camaraderie, and sportsmanship.

Yesterday, participating teams and key stakeholders gathered for a pre-season meeting to finalise the competition’s roadmap. The atmosphere was electrifying as team representatives voiced their ambitions and determination to clinch the coveted trophy.

Teams gear up for fierce rivalry

Speaking at the meeting, Emmanuel Avi from Lancaster University College expressed confidence in his team’s potential. “We will put in the work to be on top. Our only threat is the Ghana Armed Forces Officers Sports Club, but I know we can beat Telecel,” he said.

Union Ghana, the reigning champions, exuded unshakable confidence. Nana Yaw Odame boldly declared: “We’re winning! What you need to know is that we’re willing the cup to ourselves for the next five years. If anybody wants to win the league, they shouldn't compete—they should come and negotiate for it.”

UG College of Education, determined to improve on past performances, struck an optimistic tone. “The zeal is there, and the boys are training hard. Union troubled us so much during the gala, but we will overtake them,” said Kennedy Ateamene.

Other teams are equally ready for the challenge. Daniel Bayakpa of Central Administration stated, “We will match everyone boot for boot. Union is somehow a threat, but we’re preparing for them.” Forestry Commission’s Eric Ansah shared a unique motivation: “Our new CEO is going to play, so expect more from us. I don’t see anyone as a threat, but NPA will come after us, and we’re ready.”

Meanwhile, Rocher M.K. Davon of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) conveyed his team’s unwavering preparation. “At NPA, we don’t take things lightly. We’re going to have fun, but we’re always prepared. We train all year,” he said.

Adding a touch of personal rivalry, Kodwo Brumpon of UG Alumni stated: “We’ve got the team, and we’re coming for the cup. We just want to beat Union home and away, but we’re winning the league.”

Beyond Football: Platform for growth

More than a football league, the University of Ghana Corporate Football League is a celebration of health, teamwork, and resilience. It offers a platform for corporate institutions to engage in healthy competition while fostering community spirit and personal growth.

With every team bringing their A-game, fans are guaranteed a season filled with intense drama, dazzling skill, and unforgettable moments. From seasoned veterans to ambitious underdogs, each squad is eager to leave a mark on the league.

The countdown has begun, and the stakes could not be higher. As the first whistle draws nearer, the University of Ghana Corporate Football League promises to be a spectacle of passion and determination, uniting communities through the beautiful game.
