AGI to reward industry’s contribution

The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) will on November 22, this year, reward entrepreneurs and industrialists who have distinguished themselves in their respective fields of operation in the country.

The association will be doing that at its 3rd Industry Awards which will be on the theme: “rewarding industry to promote made in Ghana products.”

The President of AGI, Mr James Asare-Adjei, said  this year’s event would be expanded to cover more sectors of the economy.

The awards are expected to cover six major categories with 20 sector awards, Mr Asare-Ajei said.

He explained that, the association as the umbrella body of manufcaturers and related service providers owed it a duty not to turn a blind eye to the efforts of local industries.

“It is our duty as the leading association to give credit to such distinguished companies, while motivating others to climb up the ladder of excellence”, the AGI President said.

He explained that besides the domestic factors, industries still come under global challenges from rapidly emerging foreign markets, which do business at lower costs than the local industries, making it difficult to remain competitive.

This informed AGI’s decision to recognise those who have overcome the challenges to excel, he explained.

The Chairman of the awards committee, Mrs Nora Bannerman-Abott, also added that the awards would  reward and honour companies that have chalked outstanding successes in various areas of the industry in the year under review.

She said the effective promotion of made-in-Ghana goods would strengthen the market position of local products and the development of local industries.

“The AGI awards will also recognise the contributions of institutions that promote the patronage of made-in-Ghana products”, she said.

The six key awards categories includes, best industrial company, best corporate social responsibility company, best company employer, young enterprise company award, fastest growing company, and best practice in sustainable manufacturing company.
