China to be engine of global economic recovery — Chinese Ambassador to Ghana
The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Lu Kun, has pledged the commitment of China to be the engine of global economic recovery post COVID-19.

He said considering that the country was the second largest economy in the world and the main trading partner of over 140 countries across the globe, it had always played, and would continue to play a major role in the recovery of economies.
He noted that Ghana for instance was one of the largest trading partners of China, with Chinese businesses scattered all over the country.
Mr Kun was speaking at a Golf Tournament which was organised to mark the 74th anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 20th anniversary of the Ghana Chinese Golf Association.
“20 years marks a significant milestone in the history of the Ghana Chinese Golf Association and I’m very glad to be a witness to this momentous association.
“As we know, this year also marks the 74th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and looking back at our history, we can see tremendous changes that have taken place in China,” he stated.
He said China’s per capital GDP was less than $100 dollars in 1949, but was now in excess of $10000, with its population also increasing threefold.
“Our country has lifted more than 850 million people out of poverty in the last four decades and in the first half of this year, China’s economy grew by 5.5 per cent, with the IMF predicting a 5.2 per cent growth this year,” he mentioned.
The ambassador noted that the Ghana Chinese Golf Association had made great contribution to the country and the friendly exchanges of the golf players was commendable.
He said the association had led to the development of a vibrant development of the Chinese community in Ghana.
“Also, the association has led to the integration of the Chinese community into the local society,” he said.
Two decades of patience
The Chairman of the Ghana Association of Chinese Societies, Tang Hong, for his part, said the 20th anniversary was a reflection on two decades of patience and dedication and the joy of the beautiful game of golf.
He said the association had over the last 20 years grown in ways they could only have imagined when it was first established.
“What began as a simple idea of a group of like-minded individuals coming together to enjoy the game of golf has blossomed into a thriving community and a family bound together by our love for the sports.”
“Throughout the 20 years, we have witnessed remarkable transformation and achievement within the golfing family and we have seen individuals who were once beginners evolve into seasoned players and seen veterans continue raising the bar of their game,” he stated.
He said that was a testament to the dedication of members, noting that the association was more than a place to just play golf, as it embodied the spirit of friendship, the joy of competition and the values of sportsmanship and fair play.
Largest foreign golf association
The Captain of the Ghana Chinese Golf Association, Wang Shu, also added that the association had grown from a group with just a dozen of people to a larger club with more than 40 members.
He said when it comes to number of members, the association was the largest foreign golf association in the country.
