First National Bank brings hope to businesses in Northern Ghana

The Wa branch of the First National Bank, the latest entrant in the Upper West Region is spreading fast in the dry sahalian bush with its appealing products for the ordinary person.

The bank is located at Kedjetia, the main trading centre and lorry station since August 2008 and has eventually expanded adding five other branches in Wa, Wechiau, Jirapa, Lawra, Nandom and Bole. 

Three others are soon to be opened this year at Sawla, Hamile and Tumu to provide entrepreneurial opportunities to the people in the region.

The bank’s strength is the appeal for the numerous people in the informal sector such as students, workers, petty traders as well as the small to medium scale entrepreneurs. Seventy per cent of its clientele are women.

It has 17 innovative products and services to meet the unique needs of its clients in the market including; Wo Daakye Savings Account, Fixed Deposit and Payroll Based Lending, SME Loans, Call Accounts, Susu Loans, Farmer-Based Loans and Micro Enterprise Loans. 

The bank also has the Local Money Transfer, International Money Transfer and Diaspora Account Service, Sika-Plus, Money Gram, Western Union, RIA Money Transfer and First Ride.

Speaking to the Graphic Business in Wa, Mr James Sohinwinye, the Upper West Regional Manager of the bank, said with the innovative products and excellent customer service through research and the studies on the role of ICT and development in general, the bank was ahead of all the banks in the region.

Mr Sohinwinye said with an aggressive and robust recovery strategy to recover non-performing loans, it had recovered more than 90 per cent of its loans. 

He said the bank intended to be in all the districts by 2015 , thereby deepening its relationships with potential and existing clients.
