The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) continued its relentless march upward on Wednesday, with the GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI) adding 40.66 points to close at a new all-time high of 15,908.77.

Trading data for the 7,175th session, held on March 18, 2026, revealed a significant surge in activity, with total volume of shares traded skyrocketing to 6,426,176—the highest single-day volume this week—and aggregate value hitting GH¢39,931,756.27.

Market capitalisation stood at GH¢300.73 billion, maintaining the bourse's position above the GH¢300 billion milestone crossed earlier in the week.

The GSE Financial Stocks Index (GSE-FSI) recorded a decline of 212.65 points to settle at 10,235.57, reflecting mixed performance across the financial sector.

MTN Ghana dominates trading activity

Scancom PLC (MTNGH) delivered a stellar performance, surging by GH¢0.19 to close at GH¢6.48. The telecommunications giant was the undisputed driver of Wednesday's session, accounting for 5,257,765 of the 6.4 million shares traded—approximately 82 per cent of all trading activity. The stock contributed an impressive GH¢34,080,370.43 to total market value.

BOPP leads gainers with massive jump

Benso Palm Plantation PLC (BOPP) emerged as the session's standout performer, skyrocketing by GH¢6.09 to close at GH¢92.09. The agricultural stock attracted significant investor interest, with 9,450 shares changing hands and contributing GH¢885,690 to total market value.

Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC (RBGH) rose by GH¢0.27 to close at GH¢4.96, while Ghana Oil Company Limited (GOIL) added GH¢0.03 to GH¢7.63.

Laggards dominate as financial stocks retreat

Despite the positive close for the benchmark index, several stocks recorded significant declines. Societe Generale Ghana PLC (SOGEGH) plunged by GH¢1.07 to close at GH¢10.76, while GCB Bank PLC (GCB) shed GH¢1.61 to GH¢50.39.

SIC Insurance Company PLC (SIC) declined by GH¢0.55 to GH¢5.04, and Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC (GGBL) fell GH¢0.40 to GH¢15.94. Ecobank Transnational Inc. (ETI) dropped GH¢0.10 to GH¢2.72, while Cal Bank PLC (CAL) shed GH¢0.06 to GH¢0.79.

Enterprise Group PLC (EGL) edged down GH¢0.02 to GH¢12.13, Fan Milk PLC (FML) declined by GH¢0.07 to GH¢15.32, and TotalEnergies Marketing Ghana PLC (TOTAL) fell GH¢0.10 to GH¢39.89.

Unchanged stocks

Several stocks recorded no price movement during Wednesday's session, including Access Bank (ACCESS), Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), AngloGold Ashanti (AGA), Aluworks (ALW), Asante Gold Corporation (ASG), Atlantic Lithium (ALLGH), Camelot (CMLT), Clydestone (CLYD), Cocoa Processing Company (CPC), Dannex Ayrton Starwin (DASPHARMA), Ecobank Ghana (EGH), First Atlantic Bank (FAB), Mega African Capital (MAC), PBC, Standard Chartered Bank (SCB), Trust Bank Gambia (TBL), Tullow Oil (TLW), Unilever (UNIL), and NewGold (GLD).

On the Ghana Alternative Market, no price movements were recorded.

Market Summary

The GSE-CI has now gained an extraordinary 81.39 per cent since the start of the year, reflecting the remarkable wealth creation on the Accra bourse this year.

Wednesday's session saw the benchmark index set yet another record, driven by heavy trading in MTN Ghana and a spectacular rally in Benso Palm Plantation, even as financial stocks experienced broad-based declines.
