Garmin, MTN partner to boost health

Lifestyle technology company, Garmin, has partnered MTN to bring a range of wearable technology activity-tracking solutions to Ghana, aimed at helping track and improve the health of people.

At the launch of Garmin health wrist watches in Accra, the Chief Marketing Officer of MTN, Mr Asher Khan, said the evolution of technology had paved the way for so much innovation to the extent that there were technology solutions that provide answers to almost everything under the sun. 

“One of such innovative technologies is the Garmin Health Watch technology which measures heart rate at your wrist and allows you track your sleep pattern and many more. The device will contribute positively to enhancing health and fitness amongst the working class,” he said. 

He said the innovative device, which ran  on data, is being launched first on MTN’s network for subscribers to enjoy the benefit, adding, “As the leading telecommunications provider, pursuing our vision to lead the delivery of a bold new digital world to our customers, we consider this launch very important because it brings our digital agenda to life.”

Mr Khan added that the introduction of the Garmin health watch was very timely, considering the increasing interest and adoption of healthy lifestyles by many people. 

“To encourage the use of this watch, MTN customers will enjoy 300 MB data each month for three months from the Garmin Connect App. Customers who buy this watch will enjoy its usage because MTN provides fast, internet connections,” he said. 

Increasing health awareness

The Sub-Sahara Africa Business Development Manager of Garmin, Mr Mike Clarke, said with the ever-increasing focus on health and fitness, Garmin had introduced products with built-in activity trackers to track, monitor and record daily activities and motivate its customers towards a healthier lifestyle. 

“Garmin Sub-Saharan Africa, in conjunction with MTN and izone, is bringing the range of wearable technology activity-tracking solutions. These wearable watches are smart devices that pair with your phone to display personal data, text messages and emails on your device. Garmin supports various mobile devices operating on Android, iOS or Microsoft platforms,” he said. 

Mr Clarke said it was a challenge that was being thrown to people to be fit at all times, explaining, “It is a simple challenge to people of all fitness and activity levels. It captures the essence of bettering oneself, no matter who you are or how you live.”
