It is also to help the fund chart a new course in the delivery of easy and stable access to mobile phone and internet connectivity over the coming years.

The celebration would be on the theme: “10 Years of Bridging the Digital Divide In Ghana; The GIFEC experience”.

The Administrator of GIFEC, Mr Kwabena Owusu Akyeampong, said at the launch that the fund had since its inception introduced award-winning projects such as the Rural Telephony Project (RTP), which enhanced mobile phone experience in rural areas.

This, and many other projects had earned the recognition as the best universal service funds in Africa.

Going forward, Mr Akyeampong said the fund would soon announce the implementation of another grand project intended to change the face of its operation.

NCA on telecom operators

The GIFEC Administrator also called on the National Communications Authority (NCA) to address the complaints of customers about the poor quality of telecommunication services in the country.

He was particular about data usage, which is seen as the future of telecommunication.

“We cannot, as an industry, allow consumers to feel short-changed when indeed the growth of the industry is hinged on their patronage. It is crucial for the right mechanisms to be put in place to ensure ultimate consumer satisfaction across the divide”, he said.
