He said comprehensive policy that contained the needed directions and guidelines would be able to support small and medium enterprises in the country to penetrate the international market.

Speaking in an interview on the sidelines of an entrepreneurial interaction programme in Accra, Mr Brandful said one of the biggest challenges of SMEs in the country was access to markets to sell their produce.

He, therefore, called on the government to adopt the needed steps to help SMEs to be able to get access both local and international market in order to thrive.

Interaction programme

The interaction programme, which was organised by IIA, brought businesses that are members of the initiative to interact and share ideas that will help their companies to grow.

Three entrepreneurs who are also members of the BLP initiative were awarded for their contribution towards the development of the private sector in the country.

Touching on the two-year programe, Mr Brandful, said the BLP sought to train about 120 SMEs in specific areas that would help grow their business.

“Ghanaian businesses will benefit from one-on-one support from global mentors, experts, consultants and entrepreneurial & management master classes to turn local enterprises into global growth-oriented companies,” he said.

British High Commissioner

The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr John Benjamin, in an address, lauded the organisers of the Business Linkage Programme, saying it was a commendable initiative that needed the support of the entire country.

He said it was very crucial for the state to support businesses to grow and expand so that the country could benefit from large procurement opportunities that multinationals offered.
