Monthly Indicator of Economic Growth: Services surge fuels Ghana's economic growth to 3.8% in October 2025

Ghana’s economy grew at a faster rate in October 2025 compared to the same period last year, according to provisional government data released on January 14, 2026.

The Monthly Indicator of Economic Growth (MIEG) recorded a year-on-year growth rate of 3.8 per cent, up from 3.0 per cent in October 2024.

Presented by Government Statistician Alhassan Iddrisu (PhD), the data indicates that the services sector was the primary engine of this expansion, growing by 5.5 per cent and contributing a substantial 74.7 per cent to the overall growth figure.

"The MIEG data shows continued strong performance in the services sector, driven largely by Communication and Wholesale and Retail Trade subsectors," the release stated.

The industry sector also showed improved performance, expanding by 3.0 per cent in October 2025 compared to a muted 0.4 per cent growth in October 2024. This sector contributed 28.7 per cent to the total growth. Agriculture, however, experienced a slowdown, growing by 0.9 per cent, which was less than the 2.1 per cent recorded a year earlier. The sector contributed 1.3 per cent to the overall growth.

The MIEG index level for October 2025 stood at 112.7, using a base year of 2023=100. This compares to an index figure of 108.6 in October 2024.

The report emphasises that these figures are provisional and classified as an experimental statistic, meaning they are "subject to continuous improvement" and revision as more comprehensive data becomes available. The release follows the same revision policy as the Quarterly and Annual National Accounts, allowing for updates for up to two years.

The report also cautions users on interpretation, noting the MIEG "is released earlier than the quarterly GDP and uses the first available data sources, which means it should be interpreted with a degree of caution." It is less detailed, more volatile, and based on initially available information compared to the final quarterly GDP figures. Furthermore, the index is not seasonally adjusted, therefore only year-on-year growth rates are published.

The Ghana Statistical Service aims to release the MIEG within 75 days of the reference month. The next publication, for November 2025, is scheduled for February 11, 2026.
