Patch Bay is the band!

The band’s leader, Mr Philip Acquah, told The Mirror they were not surprised the award came their way since they had been working hard over the years, playing at top corporate and private events.

Membership of Patch Bay at the moment is Dominic Quarchie ( guitar), Philip Acquah  ( bass),  Victor Dey and Gabriel Yeboah (keyboards),  Nana Safo  (drums), Jacob Boateng and Regina Lamisi Akuka  (lead vocals), Oko Ashiboi Amartey-Fio ( percussion) and Edmund Opoku ( sound engineer).

Talking about how the group came about, the leader said it was started by himself and United States-based drummer, Paa Kow.

He said the band got a big push when artiste manager and producer, Kiki Banson of EKB Records, requested them in 2008 to back Becca, whom he used to manage.

The band then included keyboardist, Kwabena Akwaboah and the name was chosen out of several suggested ones.

“We have been working extremely hard since then and we are happy to be recognised for our maturity and versatility,” Mr Acquah said.

Patch Bay has over the years  backed almost every major artiste  in the country including  Sarkodie, Kofi Kinaata, Stonebwoy, Efya, Shata Wale, Nacee, Samini, Jupiter, Diana Hamilton, Patience Nyarko and more.

Despite being adjudged the best band, Mr Acquah said they also admire other hard working bands like OBY, Groove Agent, Hi-Skuul and Black Lace.

Other winners at the event included Osei Korankye (Traditional Music), Bisa Kdei (Highlife Artiste) and Mary Ghansah (Evergreen Gospel Honour).
