Actress Ebi Bright nominated MCE for Tema Metropolitan
Actress and 2024 National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary candidate for Tema Central, Ebi Bright, has been nominated by President Mahama as the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) in the Greater Accra Region.
Her nomination, announced in line with Article 243 of the 1992 Constitution and the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended by the Local Governance (Amendment) Act, 2017, is currently pending approval by the Tema Metropolitan Assembly.
The government is expected to formally present all new MCE nominees across the country, pending vetting and confirmation by the assemblies.
Ebi, who is a career diplomat, in an interview with Graphic Showbiz in January this year, said she was out rightly dismissed for her political ambitions on a number of times when she went on campaigns. (Read also: I was told politics is not for “Cantata” people- Actress Ebi Bright)
Ebi mentioned that she was ridiculed and mocked that politics wasn’t suitable for people like her who come from a “Cantata” background.
"I was told point blank that politics is not for 'cantata' people like me. I remember one man saying, “Does this girl think politics is the Cantata she acts?” This is how people are marginalised and I know my win will encourage many creatives,” she said at the time.
