Agradaa apologises and pays GH¢100,000 to Empress Gifty for mutual settlement of defamation case

Patricia Asiedua, the self-acclaimed evangelist, who is popularly known as Agradaa, has apologised and paid GH¢100,000 to gospel musician, Empress Gifty Oppong Adorye, following which the two have amicably resolved and mutually agreed on a settlement in the defamation suit filed by Empress Gifty against Agradaa.

The consent settlement has since been filed and adopted as a consent judgment by the High Court in Tema, where the defamation case was being heard.

Agradaa rendered a public apology in accordance with the settlement to bring an end to two related lawsuits filed on May 20, 2025, and June 26, 2025, by Empress Gifty against her in what Gifty considered as damaging to her reputation.

A press statement dated January 20, 2026, issued by lawyers for Agradaa, Agyaa Asamani Law Consult, explained that the settlement followed a constructive dialogue by the parties where the issues were settled privately, with the terms now entered as a binding court order.

Empress Gifty in her writ was claiming GH¢40 million in damages for alleged slander and libel, a perpetual injunction restraining further defamatory publications, the removal of related content from social media platforms, as well as full coverage of legal costs and professional fees.

As part of the settlement, the GH¢100,000 paid by Agradaa is to cover legal fees and expenses related to the cases, retract the statements publicly, and issue a public apology.

With the entry of the consent judgment, Empress Gifty Oppong Adorye has therefore agreed to relinquish all the claims and demand in connection with the subject matter of the suit against Agradaa.

Edem Mensah-Tsotorme, the manager for Empress Gifty confirming the amicable settlement to Graphic Online said Agradaa has already apologised and paid the GH¢100,000 covering legal fees and expenses related to the cases.
