
Akwaaba Festival rolls out again from March 6
Culture enthusiasts in the nation’s capital are keenly looking forward to this year’s edition of the Akwaaba Festival scheduled to happen from March 6 to March 8 at the National Theatre.
Started in 2022, the festival founded and directed by Joe Osae has gradually become a trusted platform for showcasing Ghana’s rich and diverse cultural elements.
The three-day event will embrace exhibitions and sale of Ghanaian art and craft, traditional textiles and fashion accessories, local beverages, a food bazaar and a lot of fun from 10.00am each day at the forecourt of the National Theatre.
There will free live musical performances by courtesy of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) on March 6 and March 7 to spice up the atmosphere during the exhibitions and sales.

The two-day musical bash is being co-ordinated by MUSIGA’s Greater Accra Secretary, Bright Appiah Quaye, also known as Joe Wizzy. According to him, the musicians have been in adequate preparation for Akwaaba Fest’25 and are ready to fly high.
Acts scheduled to perform include Bongofari, Friction of VIP, KayBlez of ‘Chochomucho’ fame, Abochi, Aklerh, King Soldier, Riq Garna, Edith Avor, Beatrice Quaye, Albee, Lady Pat, PJ, Nyornuzaze, Black Mezziah, Abooza and 2 Black 2 Strong Dancers.
“We are looking forward to a great celebration Ghanaian culture in its numerous expressions,” says Joe Osae. “Our prime aim is to promote and share our wonderful heritage with everyone. We see the Akwaaba Festival as a must-visit cultural destination for both local and visiting folks.”
The finale of Akwaaba Fest’25 will be from 7.00pm on March 8 with the specially-packaged Akwaaba Night function in the main auditorium of the National Theatre. Well-known musician, Bessa Simons and his Bessa Band, will be on hand to perform.

Other activities billed into the Akwaaba Night programme include a Wear Ghana Fashion Show where professional models and celebrities will take to the runway and show off well-cut clothing put together by experienced fashion designers.
There will also be the Black Star Awards component where special honours will be conferred on some individuals for their noteworthy contributions to the general advancement of Ghana’s tourism and culture.
Akwaaba Fest’25 is under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts; Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Regional Integration; Ministry of Trade & Industry; Ghana Tourism Authority; National Commission on Culture and the National Theatre Executive Board.
