A baby shark [pup] worth about $20,000 which Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan had been keeping in an aquarium in his US$3million mansion in Accra has died.
The aquarium broke and the shark died.
Gyan had planned to keep the shark for about four years, and then release it into the ocean when it was fully grown.
Speaking about the shark in a television interview on the Delay Show on Sunday, Gyan said he loved it as God’s creature.
The host, Deloris Frimpong Manso did not understand why Gyan would spend so much on a shark [Obo dede] and live with it in his house. When she asked for a confirmation if Gyan really spent more than $20,000 on the shark, there was no answer.
Gyan rather said the aquarium recently broke and the shark died.

Why Gyan moves around with an entourage
Explaining why he moves around with an entourage of at least three to four cars in a convoy at all times and fly business class with them, with some living with him in Dubai, Gyan said, “that is my lifestyle for now, because the nature of my job puts me in the limelight such that wherever I go people want to mob you.”
“Sometimes they [entourage] protect me,” he said.
Gyan said when he retires he hopes to have his privacy and maybe the numbers in the entourage will reduce.
Asked whether he does not consider it as a waste of resources, he said no.
He said in the past he wasted money on jewelries but and said for instance that was not the case now, since he has been wearing the same wrist watch for the past three years.
His motivation to cut unnecessary expenditure stems from his interaction with some retired footballers who are struggling financially in their old age.

Asked if he thought buying a US$3million house in an area which was not prime in the city of Accra was prudent, Gyan said he has no regrets for that purchase and defended that, such houses are always meant to be in the outskirts and not in the busy area.
He said he was considering how to maintain the house when he retires and has been saving towards that.
He revealed it was his dream house and that is where he will leave on retirement.
