Grand finale of maiden Sing Like Obaapa (SLOPA) on Nov. 24

The grand finale of the maiden edition of Sing Like Obaapa(SLOPA) is scheduled for the Disciples of Christ Ministry at Weija Junction in Accra on Sunday, November 24.

This was made known at the media launch recently to introduce the three finalists who will be vying for the coveted title next month.

According to the organisers, Francopa management, the event will be an annual event with registration for next year’s SLOPA to start on December 1, 2024.

Speaking at the launch which had in attendance some astute gospel singers such as Empress Gifty, Abena Serwaa Ophelia, Broda Sammy, Selena Boateng, Mavis Asare among a host of other up and coming gospel artistes, Obaapa Christy expressed her delight to make impact with SLOPA.

“The only way that I can let the world know that indeed God has blessed me is to leave a legacy and I’m very confident this competition will unearth many talents that will be useful for the gospel industry,”she stated.

The media launch saw the three finalists, Nana Yaw Prince, Nora Brown and Nana Yaa Evelyn perform some of Obaapa’s hit songs.

Kwabena Kwabena and SP Kofi Sarpong are some of the artistes who will be performing at the grand finale.

The maiden edition of Sing Like Obaapa (SLOPA) was officially launched on Monday, August 5, with 15 contestants unveiled to battle it out for the grand finale.

An expert judging panel of Noble Neketia, Fred Kyei Mensah, and Reverend Josephine Agyei, chose the top three contestants.

SLOPA forms part of Obaapa’s commitment to the industry that has supported her growth.

According to Obaapa Christy’s manager, Nana Kwame Darkwah, these three winners will have a special recording offer from the gospel musician.

“Obaapa Christy’s management will write songs for the three winners, and will help them to record with a music producer of their choice,” he said.

Obaapa who has been in the music industry for over two decades is known for songs like 'W'agye Me', 'Yare Yeya', 'Onto Nko', 'Ma Enye Yie', and 'The Glory'.

The Meti Ase hit singer was a recipient of Gospel Artist of the Year and Song of the Year Awards at the 2007 edition of Ghana Music Awards.

 In 2008, she was among a number of creatives conferred with a National honour by former president, John Agyekum Kufuor.
