Swedru All Blacks, Hohoe United secure promotion to Ghana Premier League

Swedru All Blacks and Hohoe United have booked their places in next season’s Ghana Premier League after impressive campaigns in the Access Bank Division One League, ending years of absence from top-flight football.

Swedru All Blacks, known as the Black Magicians, sealed promotion from Zone Two following a commanding 3-0 victory over New Edubiase United in Week 29. The win took them to 66 points, enough to confirm their return to the elite division for the first time in 16 years. The last time they featured in the Premier League was during the 2008–2009 season, where they suffered relegation with just 36 points.

With one game left to play, All Blacks have recorded 21 wins, six losses, and three draws out of 30 matches. Rospak FC, who are second on the table, trailed them by seven points and are therefore unable to catch up. Swedru All Blacks will host Soccer Intellectuals in a coronation match on Sunday, 8 June 2025, at the Swedru Sports Stadium to cap off their triumphant campaign.

In Zone Three, Hohoe United emerged as the highest-scoring team in the entire second tier, finishing the season with 72 points from 30 matches. They won 23 matches, drew three, and lost only four, finishing five points clear of their closest contenders, Port City, who ended the season with 67 points.

The club, formerly known as Liberty Professionals, underwent a name change following approval by the Ghana Football Association in June 2023. The transformation came after Liberty were relegated from the top division at the end of the 2020–2021 Ghana Premier League season. Since then, the rebranded Hohoe United have restructured their squad and revived their fortunes.

Hohoe United’s rise to the Premier League saw them outperform well-established sides including Port City, Okwahu United, Great Olympics, Rainmasters, Na God, Home Stars, Golden Kick, and Attram De Visser.

Their promotion adds them to the list of recent Zone Three champions who have progressed to the Ghana Premier League, following in the footsteps of Accra Lions, Kotoku Royals, Heart of Lions, and Vision FC.

The team is set to be officially crowned champions on Saturday, June 7, 2025, in a final-day fixture against Home Stars at the Hohoe Stadium.

Their return signals an exciting addition to the 2025–2026 Ghana Premier League campaign, bringing renewed competition and fan enthusiasm from the Central and Volta Regions, respectively.
