Meet the 12 members of the SSNIT Board (LIST)
Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has officially inaugurated a new Board of Trustees for the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), issuing a strong caution against politically motivated transactions and urging responsible stewardship of pension funds.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony in Accra, Dr Forson underscored the critical role SSNIT plays in safeguarding the retirement security of millions of Ghanaians. He called on the newly constituted Board to uphold the principles of transparency, prudence and integrity in the management of the Trust’s resources.
“SSNIT is not an ordinary institution,” the Minister said. “It is one that we will all need one day—when we retire. The people of Ghana have put their future in your hands, and your decisions must reflect that enormous responsibility.”
Dr Forson expressed concern over some past investment choices by the Trust and urged the new Board to avoid repeating those mistakes. In particular, he warned against the sale of SSNIT assets to politically connected individuals, noting that such actions would not be tolerated.
“Please don’t sell state assets to politicians. The President will not accept it, and as your sector Minister, I will be the first to oppose it,” he stated emphatically.
The Finance Minister also disclosed that the government was current on all payments owed to SSNIT, assuring the Board of the Ministry’s continued support to ensure the Fund remains solvent, efficient and effective in delivering on its mandate.
Chairing the new Board is Nana Ansah Sasraku III, who acknowledged the weight of the assignment and pledged that the Trustees would serve with diligence and vision. “We are prepared, united, and committed to ensure that the Trust’s resources are managed with integrity and foresight,” he said.
