Dr Likee: My TGMA outfit was a strategy to sell my O2 show
Popular Ghanaian comedian Dr Likee has finally addressed criticisms surrounding the outfit he wore to this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), explaining that the look was intentionally designed to promote his upcoming comedy show in London.
According to the comic actor, his much-talked-about appearance on the Red Carpet was part of efforts to draw attention to his “Dr Likee Live” event scheduled for Indigo at The O2 in London today.
The outfit generated mixed reactions on social media after the awards ceremony, with some critics describing it as inappropriate for such a glamorous event.
However, Dr Likee appears unbothered by the backlash, insisting the fashion statement achieved its intended purpose by getting people talking.
His upcoming show is expected to feature a blend of comedy, music and stage drama, with stars such as Nana Ama McBrown, Akrobeto, Wendy Shay and Medikal expected to appear. (Read
Interestingly, Dr Likee’s outfit has also received backing from fashion personality Nana Akua Addo, who recently defended him against critics.
Speaking on conversations surrounding Red Carpet fashion, Nana Akua Addo stated that fashion should not be viewed from one rigid perspective, especially when it involves entertainers known for comedy and creativity.
“I personally don’t have any issue with what Dr Likee wore because he is a comedian. Fashion is diverse,” she said.
