Drobo Palace armed attack: Police seize weapons

The weapons some armed men used during a disturbance at the Drobo Palace in the Jaman South Municipal area of the Bono Region last Tuesday have been seized by the police.

They include three pump-action guns loaded with 14 rounds of BB catridges and a single-barrel gun.

The Tuesday [May 19, 2026] attack left the main entrance gate to the palace damaged.

The Bono Regional Police Command in a statement signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah in charge of Public Affairs said about 15 men besieged the palace with weapons, wearing red bands, and attempted to take possession of the palace.

The police explained that the Krontihene of the Drobo Traditional Council, Nana Tanor Bediako, together with two others made a complaint to the police at Drobo on the same day.

The police personnel who proceeded to the scene found a group of people gathered at the palace forecourt.

Preliminary investigations

Preliminary police investigations revealed that members of the Bosea family aligned to the Drobo Queen Mother, Nana Yaa Ansua claimed they had information that the Drobomanhene, Okokyeredom Sakyi Ako II, had planned to install some sub-chiefs.

"The family alleged that their presence at the palace was to prevent the installation, but they were stopped by supporters of the Omanhene, resulting in a clash between supporters of both sides at the palace forecourt.

"The Bosea family further claimed that they had secured an injunction from the Bono Regional House of Chiefs relating to the service of the Omanhene, who they alleged had gone into hiding to evade service," the polilce said.

No arrest

The police said the seized weapons have been retained as exhibits to assist investigations, while efforts were underway to identify and arrest persons involved in the disturbances for prosecution.

Calm has since been restored in the area.
