Woman arrested over alleged death threats against President Mahama in TikTok videos

The Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) has arrested a woman identified as Mahama Aminat, also known as Akosua Serwaa Minat, for allegedly issuing threats against President John Dramani Mahama in videos circulated on social media.

According to a statement posted by the Ghana Police Service on Facebook, the suspect allegedly made offensive remarks about the President and threatened his life in several videos shared on TikTok.

The police further stated that the suspect allegedly incited others to attack both the President and the First Lady, Lordina Dramani Mahama.

“The suspect was captured in some videos posted on TikTok making insulting remarks about the President, threatening the life of the President and inciting others to harm both the President and his wife,” the statement said.

Following the circulation of the videos, a joint operation involving the CVET and the Surveillance Unit of the National Operations Department tracked and arrested the suspect on May 20, 2026, at Sekyere Zongo in the Sekyere Kumawu District of the Ashanti Region.

Police said the operation was launched after the videos surfaced online on May 19, 2026.

The suspect is currently in police custody and is expected to be put before the court to face legal proceedings.


In its statement, the police reiterated their commitment to dealing firmly with individuals who use social media platforms to issue threats, incite violence or engage in offensive conduct that threatens public order and national security.
