The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCO) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have scheduled emergency and planned maintenance exercises across five regions for Thursday, May 21, 2026, with engineers set to undertake critical infrastructure upgrades and fault repairs that will temporarily disrupt power supply to dozens of communities in the Volta, Ashanti, Western, Tema, and Accra West Regions.

According to advisories issued by the power distributor, the outages will commence at 9:00 am across affected areas, with durations varying depending on the scope of works to be carried out at each location.

In the Volta Region, GRIDCo will undertake emergency maintenance works on the transmission line at the GRIDCo Substation from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, affecting Asiekpe, Ho, Kpeve, Tsito, Kpando, Hohoe, Kadjebi, Nkwanta, Dambai, Sogakope, Aflao, and surrounding areas.

In the Ashanti West Region, a cable fault at Nyankyerenease School Park has already disrupted power to Bokankye, 4BN, Owabi, Nyankyerenease, and surrounding areas. Engineers were deployed on Wednesday, 20th May 2026, to rectify the fault and restore supply.

In the Western Region, a transformer fault at Mphor has left parts of Mphor township and surrounding areas without power. Engineers are working to rectify the fault.

In the Tema Region, a planned maintenance operation will run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, affecting Afariwaa Junction, Sanco 4, Vicboss, Yellow Signboard, Kakasunaka No. 2, Gbetsile, Soldier Line, Mexico, Community 25, Sky View Towers, Man Trucks, Red Sea, Community C, and surrounding areas.

In the Accra West Region, an emergency maintenance exercise will run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, affecting Nsawam, Doblo, Sapeiman, Hebron Township, Medie Township, Satellite, Kutunse, Pobiman, Nyabeman, Koans Estate, Adeiso, Otuase, Marfokrom, Kotoku, Blue Skies, Lexsz Fibre, Fotobi, Adoagyire, Asuotwene, Stone Quarry, Coaltar, Kofi Kwei, and surrounding areas.


In its public notices, the ECG and GRIDCo extended their apologies to all affected customers, acknowledging the inconvenience caused by both the scheduled maintenance and the unplanned faults. The company reassured the public that engineers are working diligently to resolve all network issues while emphasising that the exercises are necessary to ensure the long-term robustness of the power network across the regions.
