Rev. Enoch Thompson is new Chairman of Christian Council of Ghana

The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) has elected Reverend Enoch Nii Narh Thompson as its new chairman.

He was elected at the Council’s 2026 Annual General Meeting in Accra on Thursday.

Rev. Thompson takes over from Rt Rev. Dr Lt Col Bliss Divine Agbeko, who chaired the Council from May, 2025, to May, 2026. He served as Vice-Chairman prior to his elevation.

Rev. Thompson, who is the Executive President of the Ghana Baptist Convention, served in multiple leadership roles within the Ghana Baptist Convention, including Vice-President (Ministries) and Executive President, as well as other pastoral and academic responsibilities in Ghana and Canada.

In a press statement issued and signed by its General-Secretary, Rev. Dr Cyril Fayose, the council congratulated Rev. Thompson on his election.
It said the decision was rooted in continuity, institutional memory and proven ecclesiastical leadership.

It also underscored his long service within the Baptist tradition and his prior involvement in the council’s Standing and Executive Committees as some of the key factors that informed the decision.

The Council further cited his academic and ministerial background, adding that Rev. Thompson’s extensive theological training and international exposure strengthened his capacity to lead a diverse ecumenical body.

Optimism

The statement expressed optimism that the new chairman would guide the organisation with renewed commitment to national service, institutional growth and Christian unity.

The council also explained that the election was part of its broader effort to consolidate governance and deepen its role in national and ecclesiastical development ahead of its centenary celebrations in 2029, and Ghana’s upcoming 70th independence anniversary.

It also positioned the new leadership transition as a strategic step to sustain continuity in its advocacy and ministerial coordination across member churches.

Experience

The statement further said that there was the need for experienced stewardship to guide its programmes, expand theological engagement and reinforce unity within the Christian community in the country.

“It is our fervent prayer that the good Lord will equip Rev. Thompson to provide the needed leadership and commitment for a prosperous future,” it added.
