Harmonious Chorale Ghana sets sights on Poland and Sweden in landmark 2026
The Harmonious Chorale-Ghana has announced an extensive line-up of activities for 2026, outlining a year that will combine international representation, spiritual ministry and the commencement of its 20th anniversary celebrations.
In a statement issued in February, the award-winning ensemble described the year as a defining period in its history, marked by major concerts at home and participation in high-profile global choral competitions.
The calendar opens in March with a special musical concert to honour the 80th birthday of the Choir’s Executive Chairman, Rev. Dr Joyce Rosalind Aryee. The event is being curated by the Music Directorate, led by the Founder and Executive Director, James Varrick Armaah. The concert will celebrate her life, service and longstanding contribution to choral music through a carefully selected repertoire.
In May, the Choir will represent Ghana and Africa at the International Festival of Orthodox Church Music in Bialystok, Poland. The competitive festival, organised by the Orthodox Church music foundation in Poland, brings together professional and semi-professional choirs from across the world by invitation. The appearance is expected to showcase Ghanaian choral artistry on a global platform.
The international engagements will continue in August when the ensemble participates in the World Choir Games 2026 in Sweden. The event, widely regarded as one of the largest choral competitions globally, will see the Ghanaian choir compete in the Champions Categories. The Chorale previously competed in the World Choir Games hosted in South Africa in 2018, where it won gold in all categories entered and was crowned champion in the C-28 category.
October will shift the focus back home, with a grand concert in Kumasi that will also serve as the official launch of the Choir’s 20th anniversary celebrations. The landmark event is expected to attract patrons, music enthusiasts and stakeholders from across Ghana and beyond as the ensemble marks two decades of musical ministry and performance.
The year will conclude in December with Christmas Sing Along 4, continuing the Choir’s tradition of festive worship and community engagement during the yuletide season. In addition, the group plans to undertake campus ministry engagements aimed at nurturing faith and inspiring young people through music.
Outlining the Choir’s vision for the year, the Founder and Executive Director, James Varrick Armaah, said the ensemble remains steadfast in its mission. He assured patrons and the general public that the Choir remains focused on promoting Ghanaian and African choral music alongside Western classical repertoire, adding that this commitment will be evident in all its activities in 2026.
The Chairman of the Board of Governors, Dr George Agyekum Donkor, described the year as pivotal for the institution. “This year 2026 represents a defining chapter in the journey of The Harmonious Chorale-Ghana. From celebrating distinguished lives and service through music, to competing on global stages and marking the beginning our 20th anniversary, each activity reflects our commitment to excellence, ministry and cultural representation. We are excited to share Ghana’s choral voice with the world while deepening our impact at home.”
The statement reaffirmed the Choir’s dedication to excellence and its role in advancing choral music locally and internationally as it approaches its third decade of organised performance and ministry.
