I didn’t feel bullied, I was bullied - Wendy Shay

Ghanaian songstress Wendy Shay has made a powerful and unfiltered statement about her experience in the spotlight, revealing that she was not merely made to feel bullied; she was outright bullied.

In a recent interview with media personality Kafui Dey, the “Uber Driver” hitmaker opened up about how she became a recurring target on social media, often used as clickbait to drive engagement.

“If you are someone like Wendy Shay, if they say something about you, it’s going to give them that traction. They’ll use you as bait, whether it’s negative or positive. Once it’s giving them attention, that’s what they go for. But I think now, people are beginning to realize that you don’t have to believe everything you see on social media”, she explained. 

When asked directly if she felt bullied, Wendy Shay didn’t hesitate to set the record straight.

“I didn’t feel bullied, I was bullied,” she stated firmly.

She said people targeted her mainly for two reasons: they kept comparing her to someone they admired, which led to unfair criticism, and others used her name to gain attention and popularity online. 

“The fact that some people felt I wasn’t good enough because they thought I was trying to fill the shoes of someone they loved dearly… and also because they knew that whenever you talk about Wendy Shay, it brings attention. I became easy bait, easy prey,” she shared.

Despite the intensity of the backlash, Wendy Shay revealed that she chose silence over confrontation. Rather than engage with trolls or respond to negativity, she remained focused on her craft and personal growth.
