I will take a critical look at the operations of Creative Arts Agency – Dzifa Gomashie

The Minister Designate for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Dzifa Abla Gomashie,  has pledged to critically assess the operations of the Creative Arts Agency if approved as substantive minister in a bid to revitalise Ghana’s tourism and creative arts sector.

According to her, a detailed review of the agency’s functions is essential to ensure alignment with the broader objectives of the ministry and its associated institutions

Speaking during her vetting by the Appointments Committee on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, the seasoned actress cum politician expressed concerns over the agency’s current trajectory, emphasising the need to revisit its foundational purpose.

She noted that the agency, at its inception, was conceived as a “multi-purpose vehicle” rather than a standalone agency and expressed a commitment to reviewing its role as a pivotal contributor to national development through tourism and the arts.

“The Creative Arts Agency that has been formed, my understanding before we left office was that it was a multi-purpose vehicle, not an agency. But I see that now it is an agency,” she said during the session. “When I have the note, I will take a critical look at the agency and its functions, and see how best to make it work with the National Commission on Culture, and of course, the ministry as a whole.”

Ms. Gomashie argued that a restructured Creative Arts Agency would be instrumental in unlocking the potential of the country’s tourism sector.
