MUSIGA pays tribute to legendary musician Naa Amanua of Wulomei fame

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has released a heartfelt tribute to the late Naa Amanua, the revered lead vocalist of the renowned Ga traditional music group, Wulomei. Naa Amanua passed away on December 16, 2024.

In a statement, MUSIGA celebrated Naa Amanua's remarkable life's work, which was dedicated to preserving and promoting Ghana's rich traditional music heritage.

Her tireless efforts have left an enduring impact on the country's cultural landscape, inspiring generations of musicians and music lovers alike.

“From her humble beginnings, Naa Amanua rose to become one of Ghana's most beloved traditional singers. Her melodious voice and evocative renditions breathed life into timeless Ga folk music, elevating it to national and international acclaim. 

“As a founding member of the legendary Wulomei, her artistry played a pivotal role in the revival of indigenous rhythms, blending traditional instruments like the gome and atentenben with modern influences to create a unique and captivating sound. She will be remembered for songs like Meridian, Akosua Serwaa, Akrowa, Menyemenye," the statement reads.

Naa Amanua's remarkable contributions to the music industry were recognised with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2018 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

This honour reflected her enduring impact on the industry and her tireless efforts to promote Ghanaian culture.

As a vibrant member of the Ageing Musicians Welfare Fund (AMWeF) of MUSIGA, Naa Amanua actively participated in Union activities, demonstrating her commitment to the welfare of her fellow musicians and the advancement of the industry.

MUSIGA has poignantly described Naa Amanua as "more than a singer; she was a storyteller, a cultural ambassador, and a beacon of pride for Ghana." Her captivating performances transported audiences to the roots of Ghanaian traditions, embodying the spirit of a people and their connection to the past.
