‘Only the best’; MultiChoice holds content gala

Key television personalities, content producers, film/music celebrities and journalists are attending the MultiChoice Africa Content Showcase Extravaganza in Mauritius to share ideas on how to bring only the best programmes to television viewers in Africa.

The event which began at the Trou Aux Biches Resort last Tuesday, ends today, June 28. It is on the theme; “Only the best”, which is in line with Pay TV provider, MultiChoice Africa’s resolve to continue to deliver the best local and international television content in Africa on its DStv and GOtv channels.

The channels include BBC Lifestyle, BBC Entertainment, E! Entertainment, Style, Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Telemundo, Comedy Central, MTV Base and Nickelodeon. Others are History Channel, Crime and Investigation, Africa Magic, Ebony Life TV, Channel O and SuperSport. 

MultiChoice also launched Africa Rising, a campaign designed to inspire Africans to become involved in community-based social upliftment projects. The campaign was launched with a Pan-African song composed and performed by top African artistes, drawing on the very best talent from across the continent. 

The six artistes who collaborated to create the song titled, Rise Up are Ghanaian artiste and brand ambassador, Sarkodie (also referred to as Obidi Pon Bidi), Tiwa Savage, a Nigerian singer-songwriter, recording artiste and actress; and Diamond Platnumz (aka Diamond), a Bongo Flava recording artiste from Tanzania.

 Others are Davido, a Nigerian American recording artiste and record producer; Lola Rae, a British singer of Nigerian/Ghanaian descent who garnered recognition as a dancer in the street dance group “Myztikal”; and Mi Casa, a South African band consisting of three members, Dr. Duda, Jsomething  and Mo-T.

In his welcome address, the CEO of MultiChoice, Mr Nico Meyer, emphasised the company’s commitment to ensuring that MultiChoice subscribers receive world class news and entertainment.

Later at a press conference, Mr Meyer encouraged television and film producers to create more local content to feed the various channels, saying, “That is critical because local content encapsulates the culture of the people”. 

He said  with the launch of GOtv in 2011, the company introduced a low cost digital television service using the latest generation Digital Video Broadcast standard that represents the most advanced digital terrestrial television (DTT) broadcast system and infrastructure and that put Africa at the forefront of technology in the digital migration process.

He promised subscribers additional future technology to ensure that they have access to the best information and entertainment anytime, anywhere, on any devise. 

According to Mr Meyer, as a company with long term business goals, MultiChoice will continue to support individuals, companies and governments who pursue initiatives that aim at making positive impacts on the African continent.

“MultiChoice believes in uniting Africans to address the social and economic needs currently facing our continent. We have a pivotal role to play in both the economic and social transformation of our continent; and corporate social investment provides the ideal vehicle through which to bring about meaningful change and upliftment to our people,” he pointed out.

“We strongly believe that the quest for good corporate citizenship starts with an acceptance of responsibility, not only from citizens of Africa but to the broader African community and corporates,” Mr Meyer added.
