Selina Boateng: People rush into marriage with no understanding

Gospel singer Selina Boateng is sounding the alarm on the societal pressure to get married, warning that it can lead individuals into unions they're not emotionally or mentally prepared for.

In a candid interview with Okay FM, Boateng emphasized that marriage demands a high level of maturity, especially when navigating challenges that arise between partners.

She pointed out that many people rush into marriage without being equipped to handle issues like a nagging partner, an abusive spouse, or substance abuse.

“It takes very matured people to deal with some of these things in marriage,” she emphasised.

She cautioned young people against rushing into wedlock due to societal expectations. She advised them to take their time to evaluate themselves and their partners before making a lifelong commitment, emphasizing that many people hide their true character before marriage, and certain attitudes can't be changed.

Selina Boateng further noted that those who mount pressure on others to marry are sometimes the ones battling with unhappy marriages themselves. She stated that such people often hide their struggles, presenting their marriages as perfect, while encouraging others to rush into wedlock.

Selina Boateng tied the knot with Isaac Berchie on December 7, 2019, at the Church of Pentecost (Magazine) Maakro Central in Kumasi.

The singer’s advice comes on the heels of her own revelation that her six-year marriage has ended in divorce.

Selina Boateng shared that being single has lifted the weight of questions about marital struggles off her shoulders.

She's clear about not wanting to change her name for marriage again and doesn't see being a divorcee as a negative thing.

In fact, the gospel singer feels liberated and unashamed of her decision to end her marriage, even garnering interest from admirers.

“My line is choked… I have suitors. I am ready. As to whether I will marry a pastor again, only time and God will tell,” she said.
