Sports Ministry reveals Shatta Wale performed for free at President’s Cup
The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has clarified that Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale performed at the 2025 President's Cup without receiving payment.
According to a statement released by the Ministry, Shatta Wale personally covered all production costs associated with his set at the Accra Sports Stadium, including expenses related to dancers, costumes, rehearsals, and stage production.
The Ministry revealed that Shatta Wale's performance was "pro bono in honour of the President and the Ghanaian people," demonstrating his commitment to giving back and supporting national events. This gesture highlights Shatta Wale's patriotism and willingness to contribute to the country's development. (Read Support Mahama’s government to succeed – Shatta Wale urges youth)
“True to his promise to deliver an experience that extended beyond football, the Minister engaged Shatta Wale, who not only agreed to perform pro bono but personally covered all costs related to his performance,” the Ministry stated.
Shatta Wale has since confirmed this in a social media post, writing: “Let’s bring the love of football back and Shaxi fully sponsored my performance.”
The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has announced that the 2025 President's Cup was a resounding success, with the Accra Sports Stadium filled to capacity on Sunday, July 6. The event's record-breaking attendance has generated widespread public praise, and the Sports Ministry describes it as a turning point in restoring confidence in domestic football.
“This is a clear demonstration of his conviction that sports, when marketed strategically, can be self-sustaining,” the statement reads.
The Ministry attributed the success of the President’s Cup to a blend of strategic partnerships, targeted mobilisation, and entertainment integration, all achieved without spending a cedi of public funds.
The 2025 edition sharply contrasted with previous years, notably the 2023 tournament, which struggled to attract even 5,000 fans.
The success of the 2025 President's Cup under Kofi Adams' leadership is a clear indication that public confidence is returning to Ghana's sports sector.
According to the Ministry, this achievement signals that the sector has the potential to flourish based on its own merit, showcasing its capacity for growth and development.
