Ghanaian celebrities are sad group of people, they lose their voices when it's time to address issues of national concern -Efia Odo

Social media influencer/actress Efia Odo has expressed her utmost disappointment in Ghanaian celebrities for their loss of courage to make meaningful contributions to issue of national interest.

In a twitter post earlier today, September 21, Efia Odo described celebrities as jokers and sad group of people, who only find fulfilment in making boastful noise about themselves

“99% of Ghanaian celebrities are jokers. When it’s time to use your voices for things that concern national issues, you’re mute. But when it’s time to talk and boast about yourselves, y’all have no issues using your platform to do so. Sad group of people,” she wrote.

Efia Odo made the post following the news of the arrest of protestors of ‘Occupy Julorbi House’ today.

An Accra-based civil society group organising the protest, Democracy Hub, was said to have earlier notified the Police of their planned protest on Nkrumah Memorial Day to call on “the President and members of the Economic Management Team to #FixTheCountry in light of the level of economic mismanagement and theft that has engulfed our government from the highest levels.”

In a previous news report by Graphic Online, it mentioned that the organisers of the protest had planned to assemble at the 37 Military Hospital bus station (trotro station), from where they were to march to the Jubilee House.

But police officers quashed the protest and arrested the protesters, who were less than 50. Those arrested were said to have taken to various police stations in Accra.

As of 10 am, there was still police presence at the 37 Military Hospital bus station and any protester, wearing black or red who was seen around the area was arrested by the police.

The news of the arrest of the protestors caused an uproar on social media with # Occupy Julorbi House# trending number one on Twitter.

Obviously not enthused by the development, Efia Odo vented her spleen on Twitter, challenging celebrities to be vocal about such matters of national interest.

Actor and now politician, John Dumelo also expressed similar sentiments, frowning on the arrest of the protestors of “Occupy Julobrbi House” as an infringement on their democratic rights.
