Twicy: Luck, not talent, helps artistes ‘blow’

AFROBEATS artiste Twicy has shared a thought-provoking perspective on the music industry, asserting that luck is a major factor in an artiste's success.

While acknowledging the importance of talent and hard work, he believes achieving stardom often hinges on being at the right place at the right time.

In a chat with the Graphic Showbiz on Tuesday, July 22, Twicy noted that many artistes currently in the limelight may not necessarily be more talented or hardworking than their lesser-known counterparts.

According to him, his comments are not to undermine talent or hard work which are very crucial but the industry’s dynamics show that luck plays a huge role in an artiste’s ‘blowing’.

He explained, “I’m very talented and know just how much hard work my management team at Daileys is putting into my craft yet there are times you feel like you aren’t progressing. And then you ask yourself, ‘what am I not doing right?’ That is why I realised good fortune is very much at work for some artistes.

“I can bet there are countless underground musicians with incredible talent but are buried because luck is yet to smile on them so they are struggling,” he stated.

Twicy, who is currently promoting his new song, All Over Me, disclosed that lately, the few, who are privileged to get some recognition are forced to emulate Nigerian musicians to gain traction, often at the expense of originality and creativity.”

Despite facing challenges and setbacks, Twicy believes that his journey to success is part of a larger plan.

“I think everybody and their journey and mine is how God has planned it. I think at the right time, the world will recognise and accept my talent,” he added.

Since launching his career, Twicy has steadily built a reputation in the ever-evolving music scene.

Last year, he earned seven nominations at the Central Music Awards (CMA). He got nods in categories including Artiste of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Music Video for his songs Lotto and Live It Up from his debut album Far Away.

In 2023, Twicy released 'Live It Up' which brought him attention, performing it at Glitch Africa Studios.

He told Graphic Showbiz he is determined to make his mark on the global music scene. With a passion for contributing to the growth and recognition of Ghanaian music, he hopes to join the ranks of fellow Ghanaian artistes who are taking their talents to international heights.

“I want to contribute to raising the flag of Ghana high and even Africa as a whole when it comes to music. I’m confident Ghana will win her first Grammy soon,” he added.
