Replace broken seats at Black Star Square

Replace broken seats at Black Star Square

I was excited when I saw the Independence Square being renovated late last year.

The renovation, comprising painting and concrete works, was meant to prepare the Square for the funeral rites of former President
Jerry John Rawlings.

Sadly, however, the most important aspect — the broken chairs — were left unattended.

It should be noted that the Black Star Square is an important national asset, which should be properly maintained all the time.

That is why it is disheartening to see that such an asset which has been the venue for many national programmes has been reduced to such a deplorable state.

It is my belief that the painting, together with the concrete works and the fixing of the seats, was awarded on contract to a particular
contractor, but as has become the nature of Ghanaian contractors, he or she has abandoned the contract after pocketing the taxpayer’s money.

I am by this letter drawing the attention of the authorities responsible for the renovation of the Black Star Square to ensure that all the broken seats are
replaced to create a serene atmosphere at the place.
