Alleged fake Kenyan lawyer, Brian Mwenda, granted $1,300 bail

Nairobi's Milimani Chief Magistrate, Lukas Onyina, has granted bail to alleged fake lawyer Brian Mwenda, with a cash sum of Ksh.200,000 (approximately $1,300).

Chief Magistrate Onyina's decision to grant bail was based on the prosecution's failure to present compelling reasons to justify denying bail to the accused.

Mwenda, who was arraigned last week, faced charges including six counts of uttering a false document, creating a false document, and possession of a forged practising certificate. He pleaded not guilty to all charges before Nairobi Chief Magistrate Lukas Onyina.

Mwenda's arrest came on October 18 after he was exposed as a fraudulent advocate by DCI detectives. The case is scheduled for mention on November 7.

The prosecution had initially requested the court to deny Mwenda bail, contending that his release might lead to non-compliance with court proceedings. Additionally, it was argued that Mwenda's behavior indicated a lack of respect for the law, given his evasion of the police for over four days.
