Security beefed up as Mandela remains in hospital

Tuesday marks the fourth day that former South African President Nelson Mandela spends in hospital. More South African Police Service (SAPS) members and Metro Police have been deployed at a Pretoria hospital where Mandela is believed to be admitted. Police are searching and scanning all cars entering the hospital parking.
Mandela has been receiving treatment for a recurring lung infection. His condition has been described as serious, but stable.

On Monday, Mandela's ex-wife, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela and her daughter Zinzi visited the elderly statesman. Madiba was admitted to hospital in the early hours of Saturday morning.

African Union Commission chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has added the AU's voice to the millions of well-wishes for Madiba.

She said: "I am sending him our fervent prayers and numerous get-well-soon messages from the entire staff of the Commission, Organs and People of the Union. We give him courage and urge him carry on. We continue to pray and look forward to Madiba's speedy recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and we wish him a speedy recovery and we are wishing the family strength."
