Mobile money robbery suspect remanded into Police custody
A mobile money theft suspect has been remanded into police custody by the Nalerigu District Court in the North East Region.
The suspect, identified as Waliu Fazazi, allegedly acted in concert with others who are currently on the run, attacking a mobile money vendor in Bunkpurugu and stealing an amount of GH¢300,000.
A statement issued by the police said investigations revealed that the suspect initially approached the vendor under the pretext of withdrawing GH¢15,000, claiming the amount was being sent by his brother but delayed due to network issues.
During the transaction, the police explained, two masked men—one of whom was armed—appeared, demanded the vendor’s bag containing the cash, fired warning shots, and subsequently fled the scene on a motorbike.
The police indicated that the suspect was arraigned before the Nalerigu District Court on Friday, April 25, and remanded into custody. He is expected to reappear before the court on May 9.
The police have urged the public to provide any information that may lead to the arrest of the other suspects currently on the run.
