St Mary’s SHS honours 49 students

Fourty-nine students of the St Mary’s Senior High School have been awarded for their outstanding performances in various subjects during the last academic year.

This was during the 64th Speech and Prize-giving Day ceremony held at the school in Accra.

The Overall Best Prefect Award went to Cindy Ziem, the Compound Prefect while Eunice Agordzie was adjudged the Outstanding Student in Science and Mathematics.

Miss Esther Spio took the Overall Best Behaved Student Award while Karen MaCauley, Senam Biddah, Annie Yennah Tuuronsong and Bernice Anyele Sowah took the Outstanding Prefects Awards. 

Staff who contributed in various ways to the school’s excellent performance during the year were also awarded with prizes. Miss Bridget Adzo-Sika Senuo received the Most Hardworking Staff Award while Mr Kwame Dotse had the Most Hardworking Non-Teaching Staff Award.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Director of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), Mrs  Jean Mensah, urged students not to succumb to the pleasures of getting rich quick but to concentrate on their studies and bid their time.

Speaking on the theme: “Protecting and empowering adolescent girls- A priceless investment,” Mrs Mensah advised parents, guardians and teachers to protect adolescents by instilling in them the sense of hard work.

The headmistress of the school, Miss Doris A. Bramson, appealed to the Ministry of Education and the GETfund to release funds for the completion of projects in the school.

She advised the students to strive hard to realise their dreams by taking advantage of the opportunities they were receiving in the school.

The St Mary’s Old Girls’ Association (SMOGA) donated a number of items including a 10-seater modern toilet facility to the school.
