The Electricity Company of Ghana has scheduled planned and emergency maintenance exercises in the Ashanti Region for Tuesday, April 7, 2026, even as engineers across multiple regions continue to battle widespread network faults triggered by rainstorms and technical failures that plunged scores of communities into darkness on Monday.
According to advisories issued by the power distributor over the weekend, the coordinated works are aimed at enhancing service reliability and addressing urgent network issues. The outages will commence at 9:00 am across affected areas, with durations varying depending on the scope of works to be carried out at each location.
In the Ashanti Region, a planned maintenance exercise will run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, affecting Yabi, Merewadwa, Pakyi No. 1 and 2, Kokode, Aburaso, Kromoase, Akyeremade, Chichibon, Gyekye, Dida, Apemanim, Ampabame No. 1 and 2, Mpatase, Trede, Sabin Akrofrom, Eagle Estate, and surrounding areas. The six-hour outage will impact both residential and agricultural communities across this corridor.
Additionally, an emergency maintenance exercise in the same region will run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, affecting Kokoso, Asubonteng, Ohwum, Amanfrom, Bronikrom, parts of Adoato, parts of Dakodwom, Nhiyiaso, and surrounding areas. The seven-hour operation is aimed at addressing urgent network issues to prevent further deterioration of service quality.
These scheduled interventions come as the ECG continues to manage the aftermath of multiple network faults that struck on Monday, 6th April 2026. In the Ashanti South Region, a fault in the network left Yawkrom, Agroyesum, Kwankyiabo, and surrounding areas without power. Engineers were deployed to work assiduously to restore supply as soon as possible.
A separate rainstorm-related fault in the same region affected Atonsu S-line, Giyinyase, Ahinsan Estate, parts of Kotei Esereso, Adagya, Zoom Lion, Feyiase, Aputuogya, Abuontem, and surrounding areas. The ECG confirmed that the outages were caused by rainstorm damage to the network infrastructure.
In the Ashanti West Region, a network fault disrupted power to a sweeping list of communities, including Dr. Anane, Odeneho Kwadaso, Santasi, Anyinam, parts of Ahenema Kokoben, Kwadaso, Asuyeboah, Takyiman, Denkyembuoso, Tanoso, Apatrapa, Pokukrom, Agricare, Bekwame, Trede, Paa, Kyekyewere, Kronum, Afrancho, Buoho, Sasa, and surrounding areas.
In the Tema Region, a network fault affected Adakope, Rana Motors, Ginseng, OLAM Grains, Sentuo Ceramics, Auto Spring, Tata Ghana, Orient Netting, Tropical Cable, Crown Cans, Multipac, the DVLA, Kpone Kokompe, and surrounding areas. The industrial corridor, home to numerous manufacturing and logistics firms, experienced significant disruption as engineers worked to rectify the faults.
In its public notices, the ECG extended its apologies to all affected customers, acknowledging the inconvenience caused by both the scheduled maintenance and the unplanned network faults. The company reassured the public that engineers are working diligently to resolve all network issues while emphasising that the planned exercises are necessary to ensure the long-term robustness of the power network across the regions.
