6 Lessons I unlearnt in 2017

The year 2017 came along with quite a number of lessons; some good, others not too good. Despite losing a few battles, the victory of being alive is absolutely one that can never be overlooked. Each day comes with its own headaches. However, the greatest battle is to keep staying alive. If you have life to read this, congratulate yourself!

One sign of growth is to learn and more particularly… to unlearn. As we grow, the experiences we are exposed to make us rearrange our philosophies. In 2017, I unlearnt some lessons and relearnt others.

If you arrive back at work after a Christmas break and want to make a career change in the New Year, you won’t be alone. Spending time with friends and family often crystalises workers’ determination to look for a new gig. And the first week of the year is when many people find themselves making good on their resolutions. But is there a perfect time to look?

Having older brothers increases men's likelihood of being gay

If you're a guy with an older brother, there's an increased chance you're gay.

Scientists have noticed this pattern in previous research, but now they think they have a biological explanation as to why, and it starts long before birth. The results were published in the journal PNAS on Monday.

The researchers say that if their findings can be replicated, we may know at least one of the biological reasons some men are gay.

It’s the eternal quest: how do you increase the size, strength and stamina of your erections? There are endless treatments, ointments and devices claiming to pump up your volume, but precious few solutions hold any water.

The reality is that we're blessed (or possibly cursed) with whatever God gave us. But if you follow the realistic tips, you can maximise your erection on all fronts.
These tips could come in handy when you know in advance that you're going to have sex, as you'll be well-informed and prepared. You can make your penis go the distance instead of being a "one and done" guy.

Life without sex

Smoking shisha: how bad is it for you?

Smoking shisha: how bad is it for you?

For Jawad Rezavi, 26, smoking shisha is the perfect way to unwind in an evening. "After a long day, I'll go to a shisha lounge. It relaxes me. In the same way that some people will enjoy a glass of red wine or need a cigarette to keep going while they're working, I like to enjoy my shisha. If I don't do it, it feels like I'm missing something."

Shisha, the origins of which are disputed (some say India, others Persia or Turkey) is a glass-bottomed water pipe in which fruit-flavoured tobacco is covered with foil and roasted with charcoal. The tobacco smoke passes through a water chamber and is inhaled deeply and slowly; the fruit-flavoured tobacco tastes smooth and smells sweet, enthusiasts say, making it an enjoyable and unrushed experience.

Can wearing a hat make you bald?

A: This is a tough question to answer because the topic has not been well-studied. Two studies of male and female identical twins did find a link between wearing hats and increased hair loss for the men, but not the women. In another study, wearing hard hats or military head wear had no effect on hair loss.

Is there a perfect time to set goals?

Are you putting off a big project that you really should start today – perhaps holding out for the perfect possible time?

You could be on to something.

Most people decide to make changes in their lives around landmark dates. Mondays and the New Year are obvious choices for initiating a new, goal-oriented behaviour, such as getting started training for a marathon, getting out of debt or striving for a promotion.

15 Ways to stand up for yourself

One of the most salient truths about relationships is this: You teach people how to treat you. This applies to dating, work, friendships, and every other kind of relationship.

All of your communication, verbal and nonverbal, accrues to show another person how you expect to be treated. That’s why it’s crucial for you to stand up for yourself and refuse to be treated unfairly.

Starting school before 8.30am causes depression, claims new study

Starting school before 8.30am increases students' risk of suffering depression and anxiety, new research suggests.

Early start times are thought to put pressure on children to get plenty of shut eye, which hinders their ability to sleep and puts them at greater risk of mental health conditions, the researchers believe.

Does your kitchen support healthy life?

The kitchen is the place where you prepare meals for the family. Whatever goes on there therefore determines how healthy the whole family becomes to a large extent.

One is truly what they eat because food builds up the body. The elements (chemicals) found in food are the same chemicals that make up the human body.

Why You Shouldn't Charge Your Mobile Phone Overnight

Why you shouldn't charge your mobile phone overnight

You may already have heard the warnings: Don’t overcharge your mobile phone. Make sure you unplug it from the charger after it reaches 100%. Wait to charge your phone until it’s almost down to 0%. Don’t leave it charging overnight. Or else.

The direness implicit in those imperatives may be overblown, but they're not paranoid conspiracy dictums — you still shouldn't overcharge your phone. Here's why.
