Ablekuma West MP Ursula Owusu-Ekuful renovates Dansoman Special School

Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, has officially inaugurated the renovated Dansoman Special School, marking a step towards improving education for children with special needs in the constituency.

The upgraded facilities include three classrooms, a staff common room, a principal’s office, and toilet and urinal facilities, addressing long-standing issues of overcrowding and inadequate infrastructure.  

Commitment to inclusive education  

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Mrs Owusu-Ekuful expressed her commitment to alleviating the difficulties faced by children with special needs.  

“It gives me great joy to create a more comfortable and conducive learning environment for these children, including special ramps to assist those with mobility challenges,” she said.  

She reaffirmed her dedication to inclusive education, stating, “Children with special needs deserve quality education in dignified conditions, and I am committed to addressing the challenges they face.”  

Support from stakeholders

The renovation was widely praised by education stakeholders within the constituency. Mr Christian Julius Aforlah, the Municipal Director of Education for Ablekuma West, commended the MP for her efforts in improving educational infrastructure.  

Madam Charity Lariba Daboya, Principal of the Dansoman Special School, highlighted the school’s ongoing challenges despite the renovations.  

“The school currently serves 50 students, but we still face difficulties, especially with some parents not supporting their children’s education,” she noted.  

She called on corporate organisations, philanthropists, and individuals to support the school’s operations and the welfare of its students.
