Ebenezer SHS old students present books to alma mater
The 1991 Year Group of Ebenezer Senior High School in Accra has presented assorted books valued at GH¢4000 to their alma mater.
The 200 books are to be presented as awards to deserving students during the school’s 75th speech and prize-giving day. It also marks the 25th anniversary after they completed school.
The leader of the year group, Rev. Daniel Quaye, who is currently the Priest of St. Luke Anglican Church, presented the books on behalf of the past students to the Headmistress of the school, Mrs Elizabeth Addo.
Rev. Quaye described the gesture as a token from the past students meant to encourage the deserving students to read more to broaden their horizon.
“We were once like you and through hard work, we of the 1991 Year Group are all occupying responsible positions in respectable companies and contributing positively towards the growth of the economy,” he said.
Mentorship programme
Rev. Quaye said as part of the 25th anniversary, the group had lined up a mentorship programme to help the current students in terms of career development.
He said the visit to the school had brought to light key issues that ought to be addressed and gave an assurance that steps would be taken to mobilise resources to support the school.
Mrs Addo lauded the efforts of the group and observed that it was important for past students to get involved in the affairs of the school.
She conducted the group round some development projects that had been undertaken by the school with support from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) and the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).
Among the projects are an assembly hall, a girls’ dormitory and a Visual Arts block.
Mrs Addo said the school lacked a modern library and Information Communication Technology (ICT) equipment and, therefore, appealed to other year groups of the school and the public for support.
