Education Minister inaugurates boards to advance innovation and TVET

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has inaugurated three key bodies aimed at strengthening Ghana’s education and innovation agenda: the Governing Board of the Ghana National Research Fund (GNRF), the Governing Council of the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), and the Planning Committee for the 2025 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Week Celebration.

Speaking at the inauguration of the GNRF Board, the Minister described it as a major milestone in advancing innovation, evidence-based policymaking, and academic excellence. He urged the board to prioritise transparency and fairness in the allocation of research grants to support national development.

Addressing the newly formed UMaT Governing Council, Mr Iddrisu called for strong institutional leadership to promote academic excellence and foster innovation in mining and applied sciences, critical sectors for Ghana’s industrial growth.

The Minister also launched the Planning Committee for this year’s TVET Week.

He encouraged members to work collaboratively to highlight the vital role of TVET in skills development, job creation, and national progress.
