ECG announces Wednesday power cuts in Ashanti and Central regions for emergency and planned works
The Electricity Company of Ghana has scheduled emergency and planned maintenance exercises in the Ashanti and Central Regions for Wednesday, May 6, 2026, with engineers set to undertake critical infrastructure upgrades that will temporarily disrupt power supply to several communities.
According to advisories issued by the power distributor, the coordinated works are aimed at enhancing service reliability and addressing urgent network issues. The outages will commence at 9:00 am across affected areas, with durations varying depending on the scope of works to be carried out at each location.
In the Ashanti Region, an emergency maintenance operation will run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, affecting a broad list of communities including Chirano, Nambro, Subri, Anhwiaso, Achease, Kwamekrom, K D Sereso, Nyinahin, Mensin Gold, Tanodumase, Koffuor Camp, Bayerebon, Nagole, Ntoborosso, Adobewura, Nhwiafutu, Kotkuom, Akorabokrom, Agogoso, Anyinamso 1 and 2, and surrounding areas. The eight-hour outage will impact both residential and industrial zones across this corridor, including mining operations in the area.
In the Central Region, a planned maintenance operation will run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, affecting National College, Aggrey College, Brafoyaw, Moree township, Eguase, Amosima, Adukrom, Meansa, Green Hill, and surrounding areas.
In its public notices, the ECG extended its apologies to all affected customers, acknowledging the inconvenience that such technical interventions inevitably cause to both domestic and commercial activities.
The company reassured the public that the exercises are necessary to ensure the long-term robustness of the power network and to ultimately deliver improved service to consumers across the regions.
