Akim Swedru Senior High School gets modern clinic

An old student of the Akim Swedru Senior High School (AKISS) in the Eastern Region, Francis Asuo Tandoh, has personally constructed a modern clinic with nurses' quarters attached for the school at a cost of GH¢350,000.

The facility comprises male and female wards, consulting, patients waiting and washrooms, equipped with furniture, ceiling fans and electricity.

Speaking at the ceremony, USA-based Mr Tandoh, who completed the school in 1988, said he was worried about the non-existence of a health facility in the school, which compelled the staff to convey sick students to the St Monica or Oda Government hospitals for medical attention.

He said the six-bed facility would benefit the over 3,000 students in the school.

Mr Tandoh, who was the assistant senior prefect of the school at his time, appealed to other old students to offer financial assistance to expand the facility to benefit people living near the institution.

The Headmaster of the school, Eric Afari Agyapong, expressed gratitude to Mr Tandoh for assisting in addressing one of the school's major needs.

He also urged other former students to help find solutions to the remaining challenges faced by the school, including the shortage of classrooms.

He said the modern clinic was the first of its kind to be built in an SHS across the entire Eastern Region.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akyem Achiase, Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo, advised the students to properly care for the clinic so it can last longer and benefit future students.

Mr Marfo, a member of the 1985 school alumni, praised Mr Tandoh for his gesture and encouraged other former students to follow his example.
