Ghana set to host ADEA Triennale: Showcase for educational excellence

Ghana is gearing up to host the highly anticipated 2025 Triennale on education and training, a flagship programme of the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA).

The three-day event is scheduled to take place at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra from October 29-31, 2025.

This prestigious event will convene 500 education stakeholders, including over 30 ministers of education across Africa and beyond, to interrogate strategies for enhancing foundational learning and leverage technology and data to improve learning outcomes.

Other expected stakeholders include UNESCO, the World Bank, Gates Foundation, Mastercard Foundation, the African Development Bank, FCDO and many others.

It brings together African policymakers, educators, thought-leaders, innovators, development partners (DPs), researchers and academia to reflect on critical themes shaping the transformation

Rationale

The ADEA Triennale on education is one of Africa’s premier high-level forums for ministerial dialogue, peer learning, and the exchange of knowledge and impactful experiences in education.

It will also seek to foster collaboration among education stakeholders, reimagine education financing in Africa and share best practices in education development to inform policy and evidence-based decision-making.

The Triennale further seeks to celebrate progress and showcase efforts and achievements in building resilient, equitable, inclusive and relevant education systems across Africa.

The event will also be an opportunity to reflect on persistent bottlenecks, emerging issues and opportunities related to foundational learning, skills development, financing and innovation.

It facilitates learning and exchanges between countries and partners, with an emphasis on innovative approaches, leadership and accountability mechanisms.

The event will also serve as an avenue to agree on priority actions to accelerate the transformation of Africa’s education and training systems.

The Triennale provides a unique opportunity for Ghana to showcase its commitment to educational excellence and innovation.

The theme for the 2025 Triennale: “Strengthening the resilience of Africa’s educational systems: Advancing towards ending learning poverty by 2035 with a well-educated and skilled workforce for the continent and beyond,” is a wake-up call for African leaders to strengthen teacher development, interrogate strategies for enhancing foundational learning, as well as means of reimaging education financing on the continent.

The Triennale will be officially opened by President John Dramani Mahama, followed by high-level panel discussions and keynote addresses by renowned experts.

Breakout sessions will be on various themes, including education financing, foundational learning, and skills development.

Exhibition booths showcasing innovative education solutions and opportunities for networking with education stakeholders, policymakers, and researchers will be an integral part of the event.

Ghana's educational achievements

Ghana has made significant strides driven by government policies and investments.

The Free Senior High School (SHS), for instance, has increased access to education for over three million students.

There has been an enhancement in teacher professionalism as well.

With continued focus on innovation and inclusivity, Ghana is poised to become a hub of foundational learning and TVET education excellence in Africa.
