Six fresh senior students have benefitted from the Miafe Fiawo Scholarship, an initiative of the Rev. Emile Doe Dogbe-Gakpetor Memorial Foundation.
The beneficiaries are: David Zungbey, Vidzah Xorse, Rafaela Selasi Djopo, Emmanuel Elorm, Esilorm Brown and Alisa Agbeveade.
Under the initiative, each of the students was presented with GH₵ 5,000 and a certificate of competence.
The students excelled in the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and have gained admission into second cycle institutions.
Legacy
The foundation, established in 2013, honours and continues the legacy of the late Rev. Dogbe-Gakpetor, a devoted minister, educator and community builder whose life's work was rooted in service to others.
The foundation, guided by his life, is committed to advancing education, empowering young people and promoting religious tolerance and community development.
Rev.Dogbe-Gakpetor's passion for education led to the establishment of Mount Zion Basic School in Nima in 1955.
It has played a significant role in shaping the lives of many young people.
The foundation seeks to build on the legacy through advocacy and initiatives focused on education.
Relaunch
Following a period of dormancy, it is being revitalised by the grandchildren of Rev. Dogbe-Gakpetor and was relaunched recently.
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the foundation, Rt. Rev. Dr Hilliard K. Dela Dogbe, who is also the Presiding Bishop of the Western West African Episcopal District of the AME Zion Church, commended the recipients for successfully going through the process for the award of the scholarships and making their parents proud.
He told them to justify the awards and investment in them by focusing on their studies in order to excel.
He cautioned them against joining bad friends who could mislead them into creating chaos in school.
“As you go to school, we want to encourage you to stay focused.
In senior high school, there are a lot of distractions, so stay focused,” he said, adding that “don’t go to school to join people to cause riots”.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, Miss Djopo thanked the foundation for its support, adding that it would go a long way to help them access SHS education.
