Running of specialised training programmes under Mahama Care initiative: GTEC to fast-track accreditation of 5 institutions
The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has put in place measures to fast-track the accreditation process for a proposed Post-Basic Specialised Training Programmes to be run under the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (Mahama Cares) Initiative.
Five nursing and midwifery institutions have been selected to run degree programmes in Emergency Nursing, Cardiology Nursing, Critical Care Nursing, Endocrinology Nursing, Nephrology Nursing and Oncology Nursing.
The selected institutions are the Nursing and Midwifery Training College (NMTC), Tamale, the Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) Nursing School, Kumasi, the Nursing and Midwifery Training College (NMTC), Kumasi, the Nursing and Midwifery Training College (NMTC), Korle-Bu and the Peri-Operative and Critical Care Nursing School (PON/CCN), Korle Bu.
The Director-General of GTEC, Professor Ahmed Jinapor, made the promise when he paid a courtesy call on the Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (N&MC), Philomina A. N. Woolley, at her office in Accra.
The courtesy call afforded the two parties an opportunity to discuss how GTEC and N&MC can collaborate to obtain accreditation for the Post-Basic Specialised Training Programmes under the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (Mahama Cares) Initiative.
Prof. Jinapor commended the Registrar for diligently regulating the nursing and midwifery education sector in the country.
Prof. Jinapor, who was accompanied by the Director for Accreditation, Saaka Sayuti, the Head of Legal, Felix Awuah, the Head of Accreditation (Nursing & Allied Health Department), Abena
Asafu-Adjaye Nkrumah and the Head of Public Relations and Protocol, Charles Mbeah, assured Mrs Woolley of his support in getting the specialised programmes accredited within the shortest possible time.
Responding, Mrs Wooley, who welcomed the director-general and his team, said she was privileged to receive them on their first visit to her office.
She briefed the team on the council's activities and on the five selected nursing and midwifery institutions that would offer the degree programmes.
