KNUST holds 4th Excellence Awards to honour hardworking staff

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has recognised and awarded some staff who distinguished themselves in the 2017/18 academic year.

At the 4th KNUST Excellence Awards at the Great Hall of the university last Saturday, staff and stakeholders came together to celebrate the hardworking personnel of the university.

In a remark, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of KNUST, Rev. Prof. Charles Ansah said the main focus of the awards is to motivate the staff to work harder.

He expressed the hope the event would also strengthen and prepare them towards the next academic year.

In all, 14 competitive categories were awarded. The Best Senior Member (Research) was won by Dr. Fred Stephen Sarfo who took home a plaque, fully paid One Week vacation trip to Dubai, a laptop and a certificate.

The Best Senior Member, (Service and Innovation) was won by Dr. Mrs. Victoria Bam, whiles Mr. Charles Nsiah of the Finance Office took home the Best Senior Member Administrative (Registrar’s Offices).

Other winners in the Senior Member category were Best Senior Member (Teaching), Dr. Russel Owusu Afrifa and Best Senior Member Administrative, (Specialized Units), Mrs. Harriet Eshun.

The College of Science beat of stiff competition from five other Colleges to win the Best College in Environmental Ranking whilst the Department of Mathematics emerged the Best Department.

Others are Best Hall in Environmental Ranking (Unity Hall), Best Research Center (Bureau of Integrated Rural Development), Best Senior Staff Award (Mr. Benjamin Payne), Best Junior Staff Award (Mrs. Kathleen Anyemedu), Best Teacher (Basic Schools), Mr. Francis Martin Baffoe and Best Nurse (Mr. Isaac Nkrumah).

The Overall Best Student 2017/18 went to Mr. Blessed Charles Amankwah Amoah, a Petroleum Engineering Student while the Best Female Student was won by Ms. Constance Akosiwaa Efio-Akolly.

The Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Prof Kwasi Obiri Danso on his part expressed gratitude to the sponsors for supporting the event. He indicated that in future the scope of the award would be expanded to honour more distinguished personalities.
