Kumasi High School climaxes 60th Anniversary with grand durbar

The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has praised Kumasi High School (KUHIS) for its contributions to education and national development, emphasizing that the school's achievements merit support.

"Kumasi High School deserves the best of everything given its excellent academic performance. As a government, we will ensure secondary education aligns with modern global standards," Dr. Adutwum stated.

Dr. Adutwum, an alumnus of the school, made these remarks during the grand durbar marking the climax of the 60th-anniversary celebrations at the school's campus in Gyinase, in the Asokwa Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

Commending the event organizers for their dedication, Dr. Adutwum highlighted the plans for a sports complex at Kumasi High School. He announced that the government, through the GETFUND Secretariat, would allocate funds to complete the complex, honoring the school's 60-year legacy. He noted that the project's drawings and architectural designs are ready, and work will commence soon.

The event featured impressive performances by the student cadet, who displayed their military training, alongside cultural performances and choral music, to the delight of guests and alumni.

The Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Patricia Appiagyei, praised the school's authorities and stakeholders for maintaining high academic standards. She pledged to provide the school with 40 computers to enhance ICT education.

Dr. Kwame Adom Frimpong, the immediate past Chairman of the Public Interest and Accountability Commission (PIAC), chaired the event and paid tribute to all stakeholders for Kumasi High School's academic successes. He urged the school authorities to continue providing students with the necessary academic, oral, and life skills to become responsible leaders.

Rev. Peter Owusu Mensah, Chairman of the 60th Anniversary Planning Committee, expressed satisfaction with the year-long anniversary celebrations' success. He acknowledged the commitment of committee members and stakeholders, including the government, in ensuring the projects planned for the anniversary commenced successfully.

KUHIS Headmaster, Mr. Benjamin Tawiah Twum, commended the school's management, board of directors, Parent Teacher Association, and alumni for their commitment to academic excellence. He reported that the school has achieved higher grades across all subjects over the past four years, with an average pass rate of 85 percent.

"I am excited to report that Kumasi High has been recording high grades in the WASSCE with an 85 percent pass rate over the past four years, supported by outstanding performances in various educational competitions. Kumasi High is the best in debates competitions in Ashanti, winning the Luv FM High School Debates competition consecutively in 2023 and 2024. Additionally, KUHIS is the current regional champion in the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) competition," he added.
