Six people, including three students and three police officers, have been injured after clashes during a demonstration at Tamale Technical University in the Northern Region.
As statement signed by Chief Inspector Luckman Nendow Alhassan said the incident happened on Tuesday morning when about 500 students gathered in front of the university’s administration block in protest.
Some of the students reportedly set vehicle tyres ablaze at the school’s main entrance and near the campus police post before pelting officers with stones. The confrontation left three students and three officers wounded, all of whom are receiving treatment in hospital.
The Northern Regional Police Command said no damage was recorded to university buildings or police facilities.
Calm has since been restored after a team led by Superintendent Richard Lantei Odartey intervened. A temporary police presence remains on campus to prevent further disturbances.
