Statistics
Speaking at the matriculation, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor D.D. Kuupole, said the university admitted 18,830 students nationwide to pursue education and business-related programmes by distance for the 2015/2016 academic year.
He added that out of the number, 14,206 were offering Diploma and Post-Diploma programmes in Education, while 4,624 were pursuing business courses, including Marketing and Management Studies.
Standards
He explained that although the university had raised its pass mark for admissions, many students met the admission criteria. The rationale, he said, was to ensure that the university did not compromise on its quality.
He added that the university would continue to uphold its high academic standards in order to ensure that its graduates met the needs of society.
Prof. Kuupole said due to the premium the university placed on high standards, graduates from the university continued to be the preferred choice on the job market.
Expansion
He said the university had taken steps to expand its study centres across the country in order to give more opportunities to qualified applicants to study in the university through distance learning.

In addition, he noted, the university had also expanded its graduate study centres for distance students, pointing out that the university would continue to be the blazing light in distance education in the country and beyond.
He, therefore, urged the students to take their studies seriously and also attend the face-to-face lectures the university organised to enable them to excel in their examinations.
